We're looking for a Commercial Planning Manager to deliver and expand our strategic and early spatial planning engagement in Thames Area through our cost recovery service. Engaging at the early stages of the spatial planning process is when we gain the biggest outcomes for the environment whilst allowing us to recover our costs to do so. You will be responsible for building new business relationships with internal and external customers and leading Thames Area towards a charging culture in the delivery of our spatial planning activities. You will also work closely with our National Sustainable Places team to ensure Thames Area are influencing and embedding the latest National thinking.
The Thames Sustainable Places team provide a positive planning service to our busy councils, developers, planning consultants and other Environment Agency teams. We work to secure the best possible environmental outcomes, for example flood risk reduction, land remediation and river corridor enhancement.
We are seeking a Commercial Planning Manager with a proven track record including:
• significant planning experience and understanding of our role within the spatial planning system
• an understanding of development economics and the financial opportunities and pressures of the development industry
• being politically and commercially aware and able to think strategically
• taking a flexible, positive approach and able to adapt to changing priorities
• delivering on financial targets and able to manage a programme or work to time and budget
• establishing and maintaining a wide network which benefits the business through confident negotiation and influencing
• creating, introducing and implementing new and improved ways of delivering outcomes
• leading and motivating others through change to deliver the organisation’s goals
• understanding and influencing business planning processes to ensure delivery of identified priorities
• qualified to at least degree standard (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline

The role can be based in Red Kite House, Wallingford or Kings Meadow House, Reading. Our Thames Sustainable Places team are based across our Wallingford, Reading and Alice Holt offices and travel to these and other Environment Agency offices, including London, is required. There will also be occasional travel to our customers’ sites and offices. A full UK driving license is required.

Membership of a professional institution (such as RTPI, CIWEM or IEMA) or working towards membership would be advantageous.
