To be part of a team providing the area lead on the prevention, intelligence gathering and enforcement of environmental crime, undertaking specialist enforcement including investigation, surveillance, disclosure and preparation of case files to tackle serious environmental offenders and protect the environment.

To advise and support other teams in enforcement work.

Carrying out investigations and delivering enforcement action (including gathering and critically evaluating evidence) produce comprehensive, high quality case files to enable the Environment Agency to take appropriate action.

Provide advice on intelligence, enforcement procedures, evidence gathering and handling to support other Environment Agency teams in bringing successful cases.

Lead and co-ordinate the timely completion and presentation of enforcement cases ensuring that cases are effectively prepared and presented, in line with current legislation, to support effective enforcement action on poor performing sites, illegal exports and illegal dumping.

Liaise with other enforcement organisations to share best practice and knowledge. Encouraging closer working relationships with our partners.

Encourage and develop a safety conscious culture within the team to deliver work and ensure that all enforcement operations are risk assessed and health and safety procedures are followed to minimise the risk of harm to Environment Agency staff and members of the public.
The Area Enforcement Team's (AET) prime responsibility is to tackle serious/complex environmental crime to ensure crime reduction.

AETs provide specialist enforcement skills to:
- reduce environmental crime;
- deal effectively with complex and serious offences;
- manage criminal intelligence at a local level;
- provide specialist enforcement support and advice to staff across functions.
- develop prevention, intelligence and enforcement expertise.
Able to demonstrate experience of working in intelligence led enforcement and active involvement in criminal investigations;

Experienced in evidence gathering, statement writing, interviewing of suspects and witnesses, completion of case files, and familiarity with the court system;

A working knowledge of investigative legislation, including the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, Criminal Procedures and Investigation Act and its Code of Practice, Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act, Data Protection Act, and Proceeds of Crime Act;

An understanding of environmental legislation including the Environmental Permitting Regulations, and Environment Act;

Ability to follow corporate procedures, using computer packages including the Government Protective Marking Scheme, use of the Confidential source register, MEMEX, CMS and the principles of the Enforcement and Sanctions Statement;

Able to proactively establish good working relationships with colleagues and internal and external partners;

Proven ability to complete tasks accurately and with minimum supervision, either working individually or as part of a team.
