For the Environment Agency change has become not only a constant but essential to ensure we deliver our bold ambitions to tackle the climate emergency, enable resilient communities and achieve world class asset management. It has now become more important than ever for us improve how we prioritise, coordinate and track change to make sure that business leaders understand and assess the impacts of change, its timing, and resourcing and most importantly the capacity of the business to receive change.
This role will be at the heart of coordinating the change landscape for Assets and Programme Management. It will involve working with a wide network across the organisation to ensure that all teams across operations, involved with managing assets and delivering programmes, are engaged and supported with their needs and capacity well understood. It will also involve working with business leaders in National Operations and the FCRM and E&B Directorates, who are developing change programmes, to ensure this change is coordinated and resourced with good governance in place.
Ultimately this role will ensure that the change landscape is simplified, understood by all and supporting us on our journey towards net zero, resilient communities and world class asset management.
The Change and Improvement Team is small team within Assets and Programme Management in National Operations. The team includes change management, project and programme management expertise. You will have a direct report which supports your work stream as well as supporting other leads within the team. The team works closely with delivery hubs which includes strong links into Areas, we also work across Assets and Programme Management to provide change support to APM teams.
Experience/skills required:
- Strong communication skills adaptable to a wide variety of audiences and styles
- An experienced leader who has led teams through change and understands what good change management looks and feels like
- Confidence in networking and influencing at all levels through the organisation
- Well established networks and relationships at multiple levels across the local and national teams that are involved with asset management and programme management. This is desirable not essential, the ability to build strong networks and relationships is essential.
- Experience of working in an ambiguous environment with the ability to create clarity and self-start
- An understanding of Asset Management and Programme Management within the Environment Agency (desirable not essential)
This is a dispersed team, so the location for this role is flexible
Salary £56,935 (pro rata)
Occasional travel (regionally or nationally) and overnight stays required.

This is a new work area under development and will need someone with initiative and the ability to self-start in order to put in place the ways of working needed to coordinate a complex change landscape, which is currently owned in many different parts of the business. Please give example(s) of when you have worked with minimal direction in an ambiguous and complex environment in order to achieve tangible results.
