Climate Change is the biggest risk we face. We are planning for future flood scenarios including a 4oC rise in global temperature and are working with government, local councils, businesses, civil society groups and communities to make our environment a better place for people and wildlife.

Field Operations protect people and the environment by maintaining/operating our flood and coastal risk management assets and responding to incidents.

This hands-on role involves:
• Leading work delivery and working with the Team Leader/Specialist Team Member to deliver complex works;
• Coaching/mentoring Team Members and colleagues to increase skills, knowledge and experience;
• Producing risk management paper work for complex situations
• Supervising the use of tools and equipment to undertake projects and operate of plant and equipment;
• Providing response to flood and environmental incidents inside and outside of normal working hours by participating, training and exercising;
• Carrying out regular checks and inspections of equipment, such as tools, personal protective equipment, vehicles and plant;
• Communicates with customers, and partner organisations.
Our field teams protect people and the environment by maintaining and operating our flood and coastal risk management assets and responding to incidents.

Field teams have a range of technical skills they use to deliver watercourse maintenance, along with asset maintenance and construction projects. The team handle a variety of specialist equipment including plant and boats.
They support the prevention or mitigation of incidents day and night.
Through your experience you will need to show some of the following:

• You should have the necessary practical skills and an understanding in environmental awareness as well as a hands on approach;
• Some experience in asset operation or maintenance/incident response/use of equipment/tools is an advantage (however full training will be provided);
• You will be trained and supported to contribute to our response to incidents inside and outside of normal working hours;
• You should have an understanding of site health and safety requirements;
• Literacy and numeracy skills are required;
• Have the ability to carry out tasks and answer queries effectively;
• Competent in using IT devices, such as an iPad, and willing to learn our in-house systems;
• Undertake specialist training as and when required;
• People management or leadership skills are desirable.

As a new employee you be welcomed into the team and given the training and support needed. You will also be enrolled on the Level 3 Water Environment Worker apprenticeship. This apprenticeship is a standard that will provide you with the right competencies to be a professional asset operator, maintainer and incident responder in line with our ambition to create a better place for people and the environment.

As part of your comprehensive induction you will be provided with all the equipment required.
This role includes taking part in a duty roster which attracts additional payments.

Our Operational Field Teams are the first to respond during flood incidents to protect people and property, often working under pressure.

In this role may need to calm down challenging situations, for example with distressed members of an affected community.
