As an Assistant Estates Surveyor, you will work in a team of surveyors providing a professional Estates service to our business. Whether you are recently qualified as a chartered surveyor or still working towards your professional qualification, we will support you whilst you move through your surveying career.

With the commitment and drive to progress, there will be opportunities for you to move up through our structure once you have gained relevant experience. In this role, you will be involved in a wide variety of surveying work, which will keep your days diverse and interesting and enable you to gain a breadth of knowledge and experience.

Your work will include helping to deliver our national flood risk programme though involvement in various projects to secure access to land, acquiring appropriate interests and agreeing compensation claims. You will help manage a diverse land portfolio. The Estates service is committed to delivering a professional service that exceeds customer expectations, through an innovative approach which delivers value for money. Working in the Environment Agency will mean that the environment will be at the heart of everything you do.
The Estates service extends to 113 people, offering professional support for Environment Agency land, property, compensation and valuation matters. We are core to the delivery of the Agency's £2.6 billion capital programme to better protect 300,000 homes. Our experienced teams specialise in negotiating access, dealing with compensation claims from land and property owners where they have suffered loss as a consequence of our work.

We also manage the Agency's landholdings, which extends to 26,000 hectares.
Already on the path to become a surveyor: you'll have a RICS accredited degree, enrolled onto the APC programme or be recently qualified and looking to gain further experience.

A credible and enthusiastic communicator with good networking skills, able to build strong relationships with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders. You’re a motivated team player, able to think on your feet and prioritise your work effectively.

You'll have working knowledge within a professional Estates service and a good understanding of the principles which underpin compensation and acquisition of property interests and the management of a diverse property portfolio. You should be able to demonstrate:

Evidence of developing and maintaining relationships with immediate team members and those from other functions.

Good interpersonal skills to influence and negotiate with the whole range of stakeholders with which the post holder interfaces.

A full driving licence is required for this role.

With a focus on our customers, this role will involve regular travel around your work area including some remote locations and local and national travel. A full and valid driving licence is essential. You will have access to a vehicle to carry out this work if required.

RICS accredited degree
