You will be part of a team who follow a risk based approach to targeting the greatest environmental crime threats across Kent, South London and East Sussex. You will be responsible for a variety of activities ranging from the provision of advice and guidance over small scale waste operations to the multi-agency disruption of organised criminal networks and prosecution of large companies for complex crime involving the fraudulent use of waste.

We deal with complex legislation that allows for a variety of enforcement options, but we provide you with the training and support required to help you identify and recommend a course of action and follow it through to completion.

You will be required to respond to reports of environmental crime where you will likely meet some confrontational people, requiring you to adapt your communication style to the situation. During an investigation you will need to formulate investigation plans, gather evidence in line with legislative requirements, take witness statements, conduct suspect interviews and produce case files, ultimately appearing in court to give evidence in a criminal trial.
Based in secure offices at Medway House, The Enforcement Team has oversight of all enforcement action in the Kent, South London and East Sussex area. The team ensures enforcement activity is taken consistently and in accordance with EA procedures and crime priorities. Focussing on illegal waste activity, the team leads on the most serious and complex cases and works closely with other area Enforcement Teams on significant cross-border investigations.
You will likely have some experience in an investigatory or regulatory role, involving evidence collection, case file production and presenting evidence at court. You should have an understanding of working within a legislative framework and you will understand how to handle evidence, sensitive data and intelligence under the Government Security Classification scheme.

No matter what your background is you will have a proven track record of managing an extensive and complex workload, achieving results working alone and with others including partner organisations. You must also demonstrate you can proactively manage the health, safety and wellbeing of yourself and others.

Although relevant work experience may be an advantage, your ability to demonstrate the key transferable skills and personal qualities are just as important to us.
We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share, so please include clearly any information regarding your preferred working arrangements on your application.
