We’re looking for a Hydrometry and Telemetry Officer (level 2) to join a team who install and operate field equipment that measures river level, river flow, groundwater and rainfall.
You'll also analyse, validate and quality assure the data collected from this equipment.
The Hydrometry and Telemetry team provides support to core telemetry, hydrometric and hydrological activities undertaken in the Wessex area. It delivers a vital service that underpins much of the Environment Agency’s statutory responsibilities relating to flood forecasting and water resources.
We’re seeking an enthusiastic, practical person who enjoys working outdoors, in all weather, and has the capability to install, test, calibrate and repair complex instrumentation.

You'll also need to have an aptitude for numbers, demonstrate a logical and analytical mind, and be prepared to pay special attention to detail when it comes to analysing trends in large data sets.

Other key requirements for this job include excellent communication skills, proficiency in word, excel and database management along with a passion for analysis and problem solving.
The role will be based at Blandford in Dorset, but there will be frequent and often unscheduled travel across the Wessex area to access remote field sites. As a result the post requires a full UK driving licence.
The role will require working out of hours on occasion.
Working in or around water will be required, so you should be able to swim.

You'll also be required to work on low voltage electrical equipment and as a result you'll need to pass a colour vision test.
