We require an experienced Engineer to provide specialist advice and guidance to Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Operations Teams in Cumbria and Lancashire.
You will provide technical leadership and lead on engineering assurance to help shape and deliver cost effective and sustainable FCRM and incident management outcomes. You will provide a level of independent supervision for our most critical assets including statutory reservoirs.
You’ll take a lead role in supporting the shift to a whole-life asset management approach. You will assure the management and resolution of below required condition Environment Agency & third party assets and work with the teams to develop and technically assure an evidence based asset investment programme.
You will build and maintain relationships with key internal and external partners to influence their activities and promote and enhance the Environment Agency’s goals and reputation.
You will work with the Asset Performance and Field Operation Teams to help strengthen engineering delivery, skills and resilience across Cumbria and Lancashire Area and mentor and develop staff to achieve professional membership and certification.
This role provides a great opportunity to work on range of key projects, as you help us to continue protecting people and property in flood risk areas.
The Operations Teams are responsible for the lifecycle delivery and operation of a diverse range of FCRM assets including earth banks, walls, pumping stations, flood storage reservoirs, sluices and control structures. We do this in a safe, efficient and effective manner to reduce flood risk for people and property. As asset owners and intelligent clients we work to optimise our investment decisions and deliver our ambition to be an exemplar asset management organisation.
We are seeking someone with a passion and commitment to Engineering within Flood Risk Management. You will be comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
You will be educated to degree level in an Engineering discipline or able to demonstrate comparable technical know-how in a relevant subject. Ideally, you’ll be a Chartered or Incorporated Civil Engineer with knowledge of flood risk management having gained experience from working in a flood risk or asset management role.
We would also expect experience of managing health, safety and wellbeing in a high risk environment.
Whether your background’s in engineering or project management, you’ll definitely have strong communication skills and a great customer focus.
You will be confident to build relationships with suppliers, external partners and internal teams, and committed to working collaboratively to achieve our goals. You’ll have a ‘yes if’ attitude and be dedicated to driving your own professional development.
