We are the Environment Agency. We protect and improve the environment. Acting to reduce the impacts of a changing climate on people and wildlife is at the heart of everything we do. We work with government, local councils, businesses, civil society groups and communities to make our environment a better place for people and wildlife.

We’re looking for an Asset Performance Officer to project manage and deliver works which maintain some of our key assets, as well as develop a programme to effectively manage asset lifecycles in Cumbria and Lancashire. This work is essential to reducing flood risk and protecting people and properties. The role will also involve engaging with members of the public about our assets and maintenance work, and contribute to our incident response work.

This role is extremely varied and draws upon a diverse range of transferrable skills. Working closely with other teams, you can expect to be involved in any of the following:
• Ensuring our flood defence assets are managed professionally (ISO55000)
• Improve our incident management plans
• Contract management with our suppliers
• Engaging with local communities and businesses
Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) is the largest department at the Environment Agency. Our teams plan, design and manage flood risk improvement projects, working in partnership with communities and other organisations to protect people and property from future flood risk.

We are looking for flexible and future focused individuals who can adapt to changing priorities, enjoy working with diverse customers and are keen to work in the environment and flood sector.
You will have a civil engineering background/experience and, ideally, a relevant degree (or equivalent) or professional qualification. It’s important that you’re skilled at managing multiple priorities and competing demands, and have project management experience. First-class communication skills are a must, and you must also understand the importance of teamwork and collaboration. In fact, you’ll be able to show where you’ve worked with others to deliver successfully. You’ll be an intelligent problem solver too, with a methodical work approach. Changing priorities may mean successful candidates are required to meet challenging demands outside those mentioned above.
Due to internal movement there is the potential for multiple positions (Permanent & Fixed Term Contract) to become available located in Preston, Penrith & Levens Nr Kendal. There will be frequent travel across Cumbria and Lancashire to access remote field sites. As a result the post requires a full UK driving licence.

Everyone starting in a new role with the Environment Agency will be welcomed into the team and given all of the training and support you need to develop and succeed.

There are many fully funded opportunities to develop further academic/professional qualifications.
