As a Lead Team Member your role will be to lead a small team in the delivery of our area asset maintenance programme, ensuring all work is delivered in a safe and environmentally sensitive way, whilst maintaining the Agencies conservation and environmental policies & procedures in minimizing the risk of environmental damage.

Tasks will include the responding to both flooding and environmental incidents, operating and maintaining assets and minor construction.

You will be working in the geographical area Upper Lee & Stort Catchment covering Herts & Bedfordfordshire. You will ensure the provision and use of safe working practices to ensure compliance with Environment Agency policy and standards.

You will organise and arrange for equipment/materials to be available on site as specified so that work can be completed in line with required standards and to time scales. You will effectively operate assets and equipment in response to flood or environmental incidents in order to minimize the impact. You’ll assist the Team Leader in identifying development needs for you and other team members, coaching and mentoring them and ensuring they have the required skillset to deliver work to a good standard.
The team is well-trained and has a variety of specialist skills and experience, including driving and operating plant, undertaking tree work, grounds maintenance, minor construction works and the operation of water level management structures.

The team is also part of an out of hours incident response rota, and you will be expected to participate in regular rosters and may be asked to temporarily locate to other areas to assist in incidents.
You’ll need to be:

- A team player willing to work with and lead others;
- Positive, adaptable with a ‘can do’ approach;
- A lead in health & safety, conservation & environmental awareness ensuring compliance with policies and standards;
- Able to communicate effectively with team members, landowners and the public and able to make decisions;
- Able to organise and arrange equipment & materials to be available to enable work to be carried out on time and to a high standard.
- Competent using IT devices, IPad and willing to use our systems;

We would like you to have a good level of environmental awareness and be able to use a range of different tools, although training will be given.

The post holder will be expected to hold an incident role and to contribute to incident response activities.
The role is based at the Amwell End Depot, Ware, Herts.
