We are seeking 2 engagement officers (1 permanent, 1 12 month maternity cover) to effectively deliver engagement with communities, businesses and our partners across Wessex. Engagement is key to delivering the vision in the FCERM strategy and that of the Wessex Regional Flood and Coast Committee. You’ll play an important role in planning and delivering engagement within communities across Wessex. You will influence internal and external stakeholders and work in partnership to achieve joint outcomes. You’ll empower communities to prepare for flooding and become resilient by developing and exercising flood plans, supporting and recruiting to our network of Flood Wardens, promoting the Flood Warning service. You will engage with the public and our partners on a range of topics from community resilience, annual maintenance programme, flood defence schemes, groundwater flood risk, and rapid response catchments.
The Flood Resilience Team has 3 main areas of accountability: Flood Incident Management, Flood Warning and Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Engagement. The Wessex Flood Resilience Team is based between 2 offices; Bridgwater and Blandford. We ensure that ourselves, our partners and our communities are prepared for flooding and are able to respond effectively before, during and after a flood.
You’ll be an excellent communicator and confident in engaging with people, gained through experience in a community and/or partner engagement role. You will be a quick-learner, with a strong customer-focus, and a desire to make a difference.
Leading projects and coaching others will come naturally to you. You'll be organised and have excellent attention to detail, ensuring our work is delivered to a high standard.
You'll be able to work as part of a team and individually and prioritise an interesting and varied workload. You will be good at working under pressure, working flexibly and at pace, and delivering outcomes.
The Environment Agency is a Category 1 responder. You will be expected to participate in our response to incidents and have a role in an incident, which may include out of hours working.

Travel throughout the area is expected. Therefore a full driving licence is required for this role.

For an informal discussion about the roles, please contact Rose Morgan, Flood Resilience Team Leader on 07717 432 203 or email rose.morgan@environment-agency.gov.uk
