The team’s core responsibilities include environmental regulation (Pollution, Prevention and Control (PPC)and Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR)), particularly the implementation of Radioactive Substances Regulation (RSR) for the non-nuclear sector, as well as other installation work such as landfill assessment, pollution incident response, and delivering environmental targets. As a manager you ensure the best utilisation of the team’s capabilities and resources in delivering our regulation of our contentious and challenging regulated sites. The team also works closely with our external partners to support and integrate our individual capabilities to achieve environmental and regulatory outcome.

As a Team Leader you will work closely with your fellow EPR Installations (Control of Major Accident Hazards) Team Leader where upon the local business delivery model sees both teams working closely together. The team also works closely with the EPR Waste teams in the area, and other RSR teams, both national and area.

At a senior graded post you are also expected to be a role model for many in Regulated Industry, demonstrating the competencies and behaviours of leadership.
You will lead a front line regulatory team specialising in RSR, including an RSR technical specialist, one of only six such teams in the EA. There is also installation work of other sectors, such as landfill and energy from waste, delivered by the team.

The team is well established and professional; supporting both area in delivery and working with other parts of E&B - regulatory industry. The teams hosts a RSR technical specialist.
This opportunity would suit either someone with previous team leader experience or someone with transferable skills for the role. The operational team is busy and demanding with opportunities to stretch and test your leadership skills. An interest in nuclear physics would be advantageous but not essential as due to support of a technical specialist. If desired, there would be an opportunity to work towards membership of the Society for Radiological Protection (SRP). You will work with a highly professional team and various business leads resulting in a balance between scientific expertise and the fundamentals of team management.

The role will be based at Alchemy office, Welwyn Garden City but may require occasional travel to other EA offices, local authority offices and regulated sites. A full UK driving licence is required.

You will be expected to undertake an incident management role, likely Environment Management Duty Officer, with possible out of hour's standby or call out.
