As an Estates Surveyor you'll be an integral part of the Estates Service, working directly with our Project Support Officers, Assistant Estates Surveyors and Senior Estates Surveyors across East Anglia. You’ll hold an RICS qualification (AssocRICS, MRICS or FRICS) with a background in estate management (rural or commercial) and/or experience of compulsory purchase matters.

In your role, you’ll be involved in a wide variety of surveying work; your days will be varied and interesting whilst building your knowledge and experience. You’ll have the opportunity to get involved in the land and compensation elements of construction projects – in both urban and rural settings. You’ll use and develop your influencing skills to acquire land, or interests across land, as part of our National Flood Risk, and Operational Project programmes.

As an Estates Surveyor in the Eastern Region, you’ll be responsible for managing a diverse land portfolio, including tenanted holdings, to achieve our Corporate objectives.

Working as an Estates Surveyor in the Environment Agency will mean that the environment will be at the heart of everything you do: your work will ensure that we maximise the benefit of our financial spend and drive forward positive environmental outcomes for our local communities.
The Estates Service extends to 114 people, offering professional support for Environment Agency land, property, compensation and valuation matters. We're core to the delivery of the Environment Agency's £2.6 billion capital programme to better protect 300,000 homes.

Our experienced teams deal with the land and compensation aspects of a very diverse project programme. They also manage the Environment Agency's large property portfolio comprising over 100 houses and over 26,000 hectares of land, offices and depots.
You’ll hold an appropriate RICS qualification (AssocRICS, MRICS or FRICS) with experience in estate management and/ or compulsory purchase with a proven track record of delivering results on time in a pressurised environment.

As an enthusiastic communicator, you’ll have good interpersonal skills to build strong networks and influence a range of colleagues and stakeholders for the effective resolution of issues.

With experience of working as a Surveyor in a professional estates service, you’ll be able to demonstrate detailed knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

• Planning, property and compensation legislation, and compulsory purchase procedures.

• Advice on land and compensation matters to minimise project risk and compensation liabilities. Negotiating access to land, securing appropriate interests and settling compensation claims.

• Management of diverse landholdings, including commercial and rural properties. Experience of landlord and tenant, and planning and valuation to provide sustainable management and deliver best practice.

This role will involve regular travel around your work area and some national travel. You will need a willingness to travel, and a full and valid Driving Licence is essential. This role includes a lease car.
