We are seeking four experienced technical fisheries officers to join our busy fisheries, biodiversity and geomorphology teams in Kent, South London and East Sussex. The role includes providing technical advice on a range of internal and external projects, programmes, consents and permits, including live fish movement permits. The role provides technical support on third party activities that deliver fishery objectives and support sustainable fishery management. The role supports area wide fishery incident management and the candidate will be expected to play a key role with this work. Out of hours working is a requirement. The role will operate in a catchment area where engagement with a range of statutory and non statutory partners, including rod licence paying customers, is critical to reputational management & outcome delivery. The role contributes to area fisheries surveys and supports fisheries communications, as well as establishing networks with stakeholders in specified catchments. The candidate is required to ensure that our area priorities such as enforcement and incident response are met. The posts will be based at Canterbury, Kent and Abbey Wood, South London the candidate will work closely with other environmental experts across the area.
Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology Team covers Kent, South London & East Sussex area. A large area split into catchments with fisheries and biodiversity officers responsible for each catchment. The successful candidates will be expected to contribute to national and area wide initiatives. The teams are involved in a variety of work including inputting into major capital schemes, establishing partnerships to deliver priority habitat creation, river habitat enhancements, area enforcement, incident response work and survey work.

The successful candidate will have a good knowledge on fisheries ecology and legislation. Candidates will ideally be educated to degree level in a relevant fisheries discipline and have operational experience within the field of freshwater fisheries management. The candidate will be passionate about fisheries & be able to demonstrate good knowledge of H&S procedures as the role entails high risk activities. Other key skills include project management, stakeholder engagement and habitat restoration. It would be desirable to have Electric fishing experience and 4x4 and trailer towing competences. Undertaking enforcement is a requirement and holding a full SAFFA warrant will be an advantage. The role may entail some out of hours and weekend working. A knowledge of incident management and a willingness to work out of hours is also a requirement. A full driving licence is essential and a lease vehicle may be available.
