You will lead and motivate a team of between eight and twelve Permitting Officers who primarily determine applications for Water Resources licences and permits. This covers abstraction from rivers and groundwater for drinking water supply, agriculture and industry, to achieve a cleaner, healthier environment which benefits people and the economy. Your team will also contribute to determining other environmental permits such as Water Quality, Intensive Agriculture and other sectors. You will be responsible for the performance of your team to meet the service levels to determine licences and permits, their health, safety and wellbeing, their development and capability and ensuring a high level of customer service. You will support your team during difficult licence/permit determinations, resolve difficulties and problems as required and seek help and/or escalate as appropriate. You will have an active role in a Leadership Team covering the three National Permitting Service Teams based in Exeter, the Leadership Team that reports to the Permitting Manager and the Water Resources group consisting of ten team leader peers, which help shape the approach to Water Resources licences and permits and work together to ensure consistency of approach. You will also liaise with other colleagues across Operations.
The National Permitting Service consists of 420 staff working across a broad range of environmental permits and licences covering most of which you come into contact with during your day, from the water you drink, to the fuel in your car. You will be part of a group of eight teams based across the South West of England that report to a Permitting Manager.
Do you have the talent to lead and manage your team to be the best they can, to influence and collaborate with others and to do the best we can for our customers? You will probably have some experience of this, or be able to demonstrate that you can make the step up into this Leadership role. You should be able to show how you have used your own personal development to enhance your skills and hone your talent. You should be able to demonstrate how you would inspire and motivate the team to achieve the best level of performance and how continuous improvement may work with the team. You should be able to describe how you work with others, how you influence and persuade, plus your approach to leadership and management and those aspects which you believe to be important.
