The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We don’t just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities and our environment.

Everyone starting in a new role will be welcomed into the team and given all the training and support needed. As part of your comprehensive induction, you will be provided with all the equipment required for your role.

We are enhancing how we manage our assets and this includes how we allocate government funding to the teams that carry out work around the country. This advert is for two roles: one to manage the allocation and performance of the Navigation portfolio; the other to manage the allocation and performance of the Water Management and Investment portfolio. These roles are varied and you can expect to be involved in any of the following:

• Manage the allocation of funding to local teams; linking in to others within the National Directorates
• Track and manage delivery of the portfolio throughout the financial year
• Manage at least one team member in delivering the team’s work
• Provide information to relevant governance boards for portfolio overnight
• Work with others within the team to find efficiencies and integration between different EA functions and to set out data and information requirements
• Create and maintain relationships with both local and national colleagues with an interest in the portfolio.
We are part of the Portfolio Management Office and we currently oversee the delivery of Environment and Flood and Coastal Risk Management portfolios (including maintenance) around England. With this recruitment we are expanding to oversee Navigation and Water Management and Investment. The work we oversee helps to ensure that water around England is managed and maintained. The work that we carry out helps communities and allows the use of our waterways for recreation & resources.
Through experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:

• Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team to form conclusions and achieve planned outcomes
• Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
• An appreciation of asset, portfolio, and financial management
• Ability to reach conclusions and solve problems; weighing up available information
• Highly competent at using Microsoft Excel

Excellent communication skills are a must as you’ll be working with a diverse range of people
As a national team, location for the roles is flexible across the country and whilst we would look for most to have a base office location, there is flexibility in our working approach - with many undertaking a proportion of home working. As a national team, it can be expected to travel to locations such as Birmingham/London roughly once per month.

New starters to the Environment Agency will be required to undertake an incident response role. Within the team we perform technical support during incidents and this is one potential avenue for the successful applicant.

The Environment Agency offer an extensive range of employee benefits and more information around this and the role can be found within the candidate pack, or by contacting: FCRMRecruitment@environment-agency.gov.uk
