This role is a great opportunity to join the Partnership & Strategic Overview (PSO) Team in the East Midlands, where we manage the data that underpins flood risk management decisions. The successful candidate will have an enthusiasm for data and demonstrable experience in using Geographic Information System (GIS) tools, which will help us ensure that flood risk datasets are up to date and readily available to facilitate team activities.
We commission new hydraulic modelling studies and manage the output information required to assess flood risk and impact. A key focus of the role will be to work with spatial datasets, ensuring that they meet data quality standards before uploading to our GIS applications. As a PSO Officer you will also have the opportunity to support flood risk colleagues over a wide range of work streams and projects.
Our Partnerships & Strategic Overview Teams are at the centre of reducing flood risk to our communities. We influence investment and development, seeking to secure a strategic approach to sustainable, community-scale planning. We help maximise the value from placing assets in the right locations and in so doing, bring real benefits to communities. The PSO Team ensure that planned developments do not increase flood risk and also grant flood risk activity permits.
We are seeking a candidate who can demonstrate the following:
- Working knowledge of GIS, preferably ESRI products, coupled with a methodical approach and an attention to detail.
- A science/environmental background or a relevant degree / professional qualification.
- Skilled at managing multiple priorities and competing demands.
- Effective communication skills, to engage with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work under your own initiative and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of flood risk management or hydraulic modelling would be beneficial but not essential.
Everyone starting in a new role with the Environment Agency will be welcomed into the team and given all of the training and support you need to succeed. We value a diverse workforce and welcome applications from all sections of the community who wish to join an organisation which values everyone.
