As one of the key staff reporting to the Engineering Manager you will:

• Provide professional expertise and support to drive the strategic direction of engineering activities.
• Perform an assurance role to ensure that all relevant statutory, professional and internal technical standards are met.
• Perform the role of Senior Authorised Person (SAP) for day to day electrical engineering activities.
• Act as Senior User on a range of Capital investment projects.
• Perform a senior operational management role during flood defence and testing operations.
• Provide engineering advice on whole life asset management to the wider business.
• Maintain relationships with our external partners and stakeholders.
• Assess and assure the technical capability of staff.
• Lead and mentor the professional development of internal colleagues.

Colleagues will look to you for technical advice on MEICA issues and activities. In your assurance and governance role you will monitor performance and standards. You will be valued as someone who is integral to successful project delivery. Working with consultants and supply chain colleagues you will help identify and solve both strategic and operational issues.
The Thames Barrier and five associated major flood defence structures (Thames Barrier and Associated Gates or “TBAG”) are the Environment Agency’s largest and most crucial suite of active assets. TBAG protects around £300 Billion of assets in central London and over 1.25 Million people.

The Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Controls and Automation (MEICA) teams are part of the TBAG engineering team, who design, plan, maintain and operate the electrical and mechanical aspects of the TBAG assets.
• Professionally qualified electrical engineer with Chartered status.
• Able to demonstrate capability in a SAP role or equivalent.
• Experience of being an Authorising Engineer.
• Ideally some line management experience, although not essential.
• A methodical, intelligent approach to problem solving and be self-assured working alongside specialist contractors and
others, including international partner organisations.
• Technical abilities will include knowledge of carbon emission issues, MEICA legislation and standards, computerised asset
management systems, CDM and relevant HSW codes, LOLER and PSSR management systems and BIM.
• Able to work as part of a management team, bring your professional skills to influence high profile projects and
understand the demands and requirements of a 24/7 operational site.
The role will be based at the Thames Barrier and interviews dates to be confirmed.

In addition to the basic salary shown, the following additional allowances per annum also will be paid:
Inner London Weighting £3,776
Chartered Engineer allowance £6,000
Site allowance £3,000
After a qualifying period, standby allowance of @£3,300
