As a Team Member in Operations Field Teams you will be working on river and coastal defences, to prevent and respond to flooding and pollution.

You will be working in a diverse team of 14 people and help to carry out routine maintenance and repair projects efficiently, safely and to a high standard often working within CDM regulations.

This hands-on role is suitable for a man or woman, it is 100% field-based and involves working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, and welfare arrangements are always met. You will participate in a wide range of activities, from cutting vegetation, to clearing debris, fallen trees, small construction projects, to repairing earth flood banks and building sandbag walls. You will be trained in all the skills that will be required of you. You will often work in public areas and therefore will be expected to act professionally.

We act quickly when there’s an emergency such as flooding or pollution. You will be included in our 24 hour call-out rotas, responding with your team to operate our assets such as water pumps, barriers and flood gates and play an active role in protecting homes and business from flood risk.
We are a mixed team of men and women, carrying out maintenance programmes on rivers and watercourses in the south east corner including Ashford/Canterbury/Dover and respond to environmental incidents, such as flooding and pollution, both day and night. We also work across the country when other areas need assistance responding to environmental incidents. Due to our incident role the team live in the area that we are based and drive themselves to work daily.
You should show a positive, adaptable approach and a ‘can do’ attitude as a committed team player. You will be well organised keeping your tools and PPE in top condition. You will need good communication skills to work with customers and partners. You will need good time management and the ability to work alone in isolated locations.

You should demonstrate some experience in tree and vegetation management and the use of power tools, ride on plant and equipment. Some knowledge of small, light construction and/or fencing would be of some benefit.

We would like you to have a good level of environmental awareness. You will need some experience using, or be willing to learn to use, tablet-style computers and mobile technology.

You’ll have the energy to motivate, encourage and coach others in your team on site. The ideal candidate will be friendly and willing to work with others.
The role will be based in Plucks Gutter Depot and interviews will be held there. Dates to be confirmed.
