A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen within the Fisheries and Biodiversity Team in the Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly area. We are looking for someone who will help us restore natural processes and enhance the natural environment. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the environment by creating habitat, restoring rivers and protecting and enhancing biodiversity.
We work with a wide range of our internal colleagues, locally and nationally, and partners at South West Water, Local Authorities, Wildlife Trusts and more. We influence large programmes to work to deliver investment in the environment as well as being statutory consultees and collaborators in Environment Agency Permits.
DCIS has a long history of industrial mining and quarrying which we work with Mineral companies to remediate the legacy of environmental damage. For example, we have 3 upland area which have suffered ecological damage due to extraction industries, draining and overgrazing. We work on landscape scale restoration of uplands with specialist teams across the area.
You will join a large, vibrant team which integrates fisheries, biodiversity and geomorphology expertise across Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly. We conserve and enhance rivers, wetlands, estuaries and coastal habitats to deliver long-lasting resilient and adaptive landscape-scale environmental improvements.
The successful candidate must have the following:
• A proven track record for delivering results for the environment,
• Excellent communication skills,
• Influencing and negotiating skills to improve biodiversity outcomes,
• Ability to use their experience of working with the natural environment to make decisions in a timely manner, finding optimal solutions in sometimes challenging situations.
• Ability to plan and manage own workload to deliver outcomes in a timely manner, often working to tight deadlines, whilst also working co-operatively as part of a team to achieve common goals
• Knowledge of Legislation relevant to working with wildlife at the environment agency,
• Work experience and/or education in a relevant discipline.
• UK driving licence
