Environmental data is at the heart of what we do, good data results in sound interventions and supports delivery of environmental improvements.

We are looking to recruit four Advisors to help deliver a range of activities across monitoring and planning. Some of these roles will focus on supporting the current Planning Systems data and development work, other roles will focus on helping define and develop the future system needs of environmental monitoring and planning.

We will work with a wide range of stakeholders, liaising with the business to define requirements and then with digital services to create and implement solutions. If you enjoy working with data and systems, talking to stakeholders, improving business processes, and finding solutions to complex technical issues, then this could be the role for you.

We would like to hear from enthusiastic and determined people who are excited to be a part of our digital transformation journey and who are passionate about delivering improvements to our monitoring and planning IT systems.

Some experience in environmental monitoring and/or planning is desirable but is not essential at this stage.
Strategic Monitoring and Planning Data and Systems is an expanding team who are passionate about transforming the Data and IT which supports the business. As well as delivering the Environment Monitoring and Planning Programme we also develop and support IT systems such as Catchment Planning System (CPS) and Catchment Data Explorer (CDE). The team sits within Water Strategy and Partnerships and works with colleagues in Digital Data & Technology Services (DDTS), external suppliers and stakeholders.
We have a wide range of work to cover as a team, so we can focus your role on the strengths and skills you have. We do not expect everyone to have all these skills, but these roles would suit people with experience/skills in:

Data management – particularly environmental data
Product/system ownership and delivery – working with suppliers
Leading/contributing to stakeholder engagement and focus groups
Environmental planning or monitoring
Driving efficiency through the use of technology
Delivering improvements to working practices focusing on quality and innovation
Successful technical delivery and project management
Communications and engagement on technical subject matter
Working within a dispersed team
The host department may have further similar job opportunities. If you don’t secure a role this time but give a successful interview, we’ll place you on a reserve list. Where possible, we will attempt to backfill vacancies that arise in the next six months from this list.

We promote an inclusive culture, welcoming all applicants, including disabled, neurodiverse, LGBT+ or Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic colleagues. Part time/job share applications also encouraged.

You will be working as part of a dispersed team which supports remote working although occasional travel and overnight stays may be beneficial in due course.

For further details or for an informal discussion, please e-mail EMPProgramme@environment-agency.gov.uk and we will arrange someone to call you back.

Interviews are likely be held early September.
