Are you passionate about incident management and organisational resilience? Want to be part of a forward-thinking team that shapes how we manage the impacts of risks to the environment and our work to protect it? Do you understand the importance of a strategic approach to manage key services?

We have a new opportunity for a motivated, strategic-thinking candidate to help guide the development of the Environment Agency’s critical incident management (IM) service.

As a Senior Advisor you will play a key role in shaping new products and processes to enable effective management of the IM service. You’ll provide strong direction and take a collaborative approach to ensuring we meet our IM Strategy outcomes, shaping direction of future investment.

You’ll be confident at collaborating with an extensive network of internal teams across the organisation, be highly organised and accomplished in communicating ideas to others.

You’ll have an interest in diversity and inclusion and in encouraging others’ viewpoints. You will be motivated to develop yourself and others.

If you want to be part of a great team in a nurturing organisation that will support you to be the best you can, then we’d love to have you as part of the team.
The Strategy, Service and Investment team in Incident Management & Resilience sets the strategic direction for the IM Service.

We define and shape the Service, overseeing improvements to ensure stretching ambitions are met and that we’re meeting customers’ expectations to agreed standards.

We’re a remote national team and your location can be flexible. We work virtually with a wide range of other teams and individuals, but some travel will be expected on occasion.
You’ll bring a range of skills and experience; in particular:

-Good understanding of incident management and/or organisational resilience. Knowledge of Environment Agency responsibilities in this area would be advantageous.
-Experience in incident planning, engagement, response and/or recovery would also be advantageous.

More importantly, we’re looking for:

-Great communication skills, including providing concise briefings and engaging presentations; able to communicate with a range of teams and individuals at all levels.
-Ability to network and develop strong links with colleagues, working in partnership and managing expectations.
-Proven ability to shape new approaches or develop innovative solutions, and effectively communicate them to a wide audience.
-Strong organisational skills, able to re-prioritise and adapt your plans quickly and work without supervision.
-Ability to turn ideas into actions and embed these effectively, using your influencing skills to overcome resistance.
-Ability to deliver results through others outside your direct control.
-Good team player who involves others.
Your base will be any Environment Agency office. Remote / hybrid working (from home with some national travel) is standard.

You’ll be required to have an incident role and be available to respond when required. This may require working outside of office hours and at the weekend. This will attract an additional payment. Flexible working arrangements are available to support you in your incident role. You will receive training and support in advance, and your role will match your personal preferences.

Contact: Chris Strong (chris.strong@environment-agency.gov.uk) on 07770597194 up to 28 July and 15-19 August, or Pete Dobson (peter.s.dobson@environment-agency.gov.uk) on 07787128705 from 29 July to 12 August.

Interviews will be undertaken remotely via MS Teams and likely to be held on week commencing 5 Sept 2022
