We need to be prepared for many types of incidents and emergencies and work alongside other agencies to prevent harm to people and the environment.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspirational leader with a passion for emergencies, who wants to make a lasting difference by leading our preparedness for what’s ahead.
You'll provide organisation wide leadership on our planning and preparedness approaches, ensuring that we’re ready to respond to the highest risks on the National Security Risk Assessment. You’ll be the face of the Environment Agency with some of our key partnerships, ensuring we’re a great to work with and find new solutions together in the multi-agency response world.

The Incident Planning team are emergency planning experts dispersed across England, line managed by three senior advisors who will report to you.

They take our nationally agreed environmental and societal risks and turn them into scalable and usable plans for the organisation to follow in emergencies. They work in partnerships with other Civil Contingency response bodies and Government agencies. They ensure the organisation is prepared and ready for threats we can see on the horizon.
We are looking for applicants who have:
• Experience of successfully leading and motivating dispersed teams to deliver changing work plans to challenging timescales.
• Lead innovative thinking and set strategic organisational direction which has made a real difference in your sector or organisation.

• Strong communication skills that are adaptable to a wide variety of audiences and styles;
• Can demonstrate their commitment to self-development and how they’ve created an open, inclusive, and trusting culture in their team and beyond.

Above all we are looking for someone who is ready to learn, happy to challenge the status quo and includes everyone.
This is an assignment for internal candidates and a fixed term appointment for new starters. The role requires some travel, as the team and our partners are spread across England. The majority of your time will be spent at home, or in your nearest local office.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents. This may require working outside of office hours and at the weekend, which will attract an additional payment. Flexible working arrangements are in place to support you in your role and full training will be provided.

To discuss any aspect of the role please contact Katharine Smith - Incident Planning Manager (07766443527) - Katharine.smith@environment-agency.gov.uk).
