We’re committed to having an inclusive workforce reflecting the communities we serve, so welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds.

Would you like to be at the forefront of improving the environment? This is an exciting opportunity to work in our national Agricultural Remote Sensing Team.

Agricultural practices can cause significant and chronic pollution to our precious water environment. These can be caused by leaks of slurry and silage effluent, and other materials, stored and spread on farms. Working with colleagues, you will use GIS, aerial photography and other sources of evidence to identify pollution risks to the environment and produce evidence packs to support farm visits by local officers.

We are looking for dynamic individuals, including graduates, to work with local officers and identify pollution risks to the environment from farms using GIS and other remote sensing evidence. This will support local farm inspections adding vital intelligence to ensure we get the best environmental outcomes. This will help safeguard and improve the future environment.
The Remote Sensing Team is part of the One Agriculture Team within the national Water, Land and Biodiversity function. We steer the direction, set the priorities and shape our organisation's approach to delivering environmental outcomes and better regulation.

We work closely with colleagues across the Environment Agency, with government, delivery partners and customers, and the agricultural and food sector to help create a better place for people and wildlife and demonstrate value for money.
In your capability-based answers please demonstrate your:

• The ability to use, and an interest in, GIS mapping producing accurate reports to a template and carrying out basic analysis of mapping data are essential. As is the ability to manipulate data in Excel.
• A basic knowledge and interest in farm or waste regulations and associated systems and common causes of agricultural diffuse pollution would be advantageous.
• You will be self-motivated and organised with excellent attention to detail. A strong team ethic is essential, as is an ability to work independently. A desire to innovate and solving problems will be valuable assets in this role.

You’ll have a range of development opportunities and appropriate training will be provided.
This post can be based at any of our office hubs around the country and can be a hybrid of working from home.

If you want to discuss the role further, please contact Warren.Gregory@environment-agency.gov.uk

Applications will be “blind” assessed using your answers to the competency questions.

Interviews will be held using MS Teams during April/May 2024

You can consent to be added to a reserve list, your details will be kept for 6 months and may be offered an alternative post.

Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties when needed. Having an incident role is an essential part of working for the Environment Agency and an active way to support communities and prevent harm to the environment.
