You will lead a skilled team to deliver environmental outcomes across Yorkshire through regulatory intervention and influence.

You and the team will be responsible for improving the environment in Yorkshire by regulating permitted waste sites and responding to pollution incidents. This diverse landscape includes areas of outstanding natural beauty; thriving rural economy; the 2017 city of culture and a coastline with economically significant resort beaches.

You will ensure that your team have the correct resources, skills and operational capabilities to fulfil their day to day role of compliance and regulatory work, and to provide effective and professional incident response. You will work with external partners, and other internal teams to deliver environmental outcomes at sites you are responsible for.

Your strong enthusiastic leadership will maintain the high standard of corporate and professional behaviours expected of the team and promote a strong Health, Safety & Wellbeing culture. You will be able to demonstrate a track record of working with others to deliver defined outputs. Your work will help support the successful delivery of our 25 year environment plan which benefits people and wildlife.
The team undertakes a range of compliance activities in the waste sector to protect air, water and land quality. In certain circumstances we will seek the influence of partners to deliver the environmental outcomes we are seeking.
Leadership is part of your career plan and you are passionate about the environment and people. You will have a strong commitment to people, both your team and our customers, with good communication and influencing skills. You will be able to use your initiative to take timely decisions and to manage and prioritise a complex workload, to tight deadlines and a good understanding of incident response. You should be able to remain positive and focused on the key priorities, even when conflicting demands conspire to knock you and your team off course. Knowledge of regulated industry or experience of regulation in another field is desirable but not essential.
A full UK driving licence is essential.
