Ensuring all high risk properties have access to flood warnings. New flood warnings will be underpinned by new flood forecasts, technical lead for the development and provision of these critical flood forecasts as part of the Flood Warning Expansion Project

• Leading on PDM development to deliver new flood forecasts including model inception, development and calibration.
• Collaborating with stakeholders and team members to develop new and innovative forecasting solutions to deliver warnings in hard to reach places
• Working closely with our framework contractors to ensure products are fit for purpose and liaising with Evidence and Risk colleagues to ensure solutions are compatible with the Real Time Forecasting Strategy and Incident Management Forecasting System
• Working closely with Incident Management & Resilience colleagues to successfully plan and embed new forecast products into operating procedures
• Reacting quickly and efficiently to technical forecasting problems or issues, suggesting alternative solutions when the need arises
• Working closely with FWEP forecasting Senior Adviser and other FWEP workstream leads to ensure join up across all forecasting projects and wider FWEP project work
• Collecting, analysing, and managing data. Managing packages of forecasting development projects including risk assessment, financial reporting and programme management
You will work within Evidence and Risk and closely with the flood warning expansion Project Team. The team will coordinate all work required to facilitate the expansion of the flood warning network. The team are fully focussed on ensuring we deliver on our commitment to government of providing warnings to all properties at high risk by 2022.

The Project Delivery Team are part of the Incident Management and Resilience Department in National Operations
Experience of building and/or reviewing flood forecasting models (for example PDM, Flood Modeller or similar)
GIS skills including data visualisation, processing and management
An understanding of or experience of incident management, including flood warning, operational response, post event reviews and lessons learnt
Meteorology or weather forecasting training or experience.
Good communication and engagement skills including experience of working with and servicing multiple customers
Great analytical skills, working with statistics and data, particularly in flood risk.
A good awareness of the flood warning service.
Understanding of hydrometric and meteorological data, its limitations and collection techniques.
Motivated individual that is able to work at pace to tight deadlines, initiative, manage own workload, take responsibility for tasks.
Someone that enjoys dealing with people and has good influencing and negotiating skills.
Capable of finding innovative solutions, solving problems and suggesting alternative ways of working
Capable of embracing change and adopting efficient ways of working.
