We are seeking a proactive and collaborative Natural Capital Advisor to contribute to the development and application of natural capital evidence and tools that will support delivery of integrated water management from “source to sea”. You will help us improve how natural capital evidence is used to better achieve outcomes for people and nature.

Well organised and possessing strong time management skills, you can work independently using your own initiative, as well as collaborate effectively across different disciplines and organisations. You are comfortable working at pace, while navigating to uncertainty.

  • Support the development of evidence and tools that bring together environmental, social and economic data to support systems-based decision-making across the water environment from “source to sea”.
  • Practically apply natural capital evidence and tools by working with EA teams and external organisations across key areas covering water management, flood protection, nature recovery and sustainable growth.
  • Work collaboratively with other technical specialists, operational teams, policy colleagues and external partners to deliver co-designed outputs to achieve shared goals.
  • Communicate insights through technical reports, easy to understand, analysis and accessible visuals.

You'll be joining the Natural Capital and Evidence Synthesis team, in the Chief Scientist’s Group. Our dispersed team works with operational, technical and project teams across the country to enable a way of understanding the environment as a set of natural assets and ecosystem services, and how these support people’s wellbeing and the economy. We use our expertise to innovate, engage, influence policy, support delivery and secure resources.

In your answers to competency-based questions, please demonstrate your:

  • Applied experience of catchment management, addressing challenges and opportunities within water management, nature recovery and flood risk management. (Essential)
  • Knowledge of natural capital and systems approaches, ecosystem services, and wider socio-economic benefits provided by the water environment. (Essential)
  • Applied knowledge of nature-based solutions and associated benefits within catchments, estuaries and coasts, including their contribution to water quality, biodiversity, climate resilience, flood risk management and wider societal outcomes. (Essential)
  • Experience of collaborative working across organisations and disciplines. (Essential)
  • Ability to gather and clearly communicate complex environmental information to audiences. (Essential)
  • Capability of data processing/ analysis with applications such as Power BI, Excel and Kumu, including visualisation and systems mapping. (Desirable)

In turn, we will support your continued professional development on natural capital, providing you with opportunities to work alongside specialists across the business.

You'll have an EA office base, but your working location can be flexible/ hybrid.

We use online platforms to stay connected but occasional travel/ overnight stays may be required.

You’ll have an incident management objective in your development plan. We’ll help you find a role to suit your needs.
