We’re looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, resilient self-starter to join a new team in Modelling and Forecasting to embed and develop further our approaches on quality assurance of flood modelling. Enabling others to understand the quality of and have confidence in our modelling in their decision making. Quality assurance of our modelling is key to demonstrating confidence in our flood modelling and translating that into the confidence we have in our flood risk management activities.
You will be responsible for ensuring our modelling quality assurance framework is fully embedded in our work, developing our reporting and monitoring structures around modelling assurance. You will be key to setting standards to support modelling and the work required to define those standards.
There will be over laps with data and systems activities related to how we improve our modelling standards and assurance roles.
You will also undertake assurance activities for modelling to both support Modelling and Forecasting in its Business as usual delivery and facilitate monitoring our quality assurance processes in practice. This will include work to support our role in Modelling and Forecasting as part of the Large Project Review Group.
The National Modelling and Forecasting service is part of our Incident Management and Resilience function. It delivers local, community scale modelling and forecasting services to Areas ongoing maintenance of our most valued national datasets and are the authoritative voice on Flood modelling for the Environment Agency.
This role sits in Modelling and Forecasting Inland but covers all areas of our work.
You will bring experience of building and reviewing a range of non-real time flood models and an understanding of quality assurance of those, or detailed understanding of quality and technical assurance and demonstrable knowledge of all aspects of flood modelling.
You will have experience of supporting FCRM schemes with modelling expertise.
Effective communication/influencing and working with and through others are key part of this role.
Knowledge of Environment Agency systems to support management of modelling data would be desirable.

The successful candidate will be based in a Modelling and Forecasting hub location. Travel to other Environment Agency and offices and attendance at national meetings is expected.
