We are looking for a Waterways Officer to work in our Waterways department. This is an important role on the river and includes routine river patrols, involving both the planned and reactive enforcement of Waterways legislation. At times you will also work as part of the larger team, in any part of the River, to help deliver large scale enforcement operations. You will be trained to achieve Environment Agency level 2 warrant status for the purposes of entering land or premises to collect or remove evidence in relation to a suspected offence.
The Thames Waterways department has a responsibility for the non-tidal River Thames and we aim to provide a first class service to all our customers. This includes ensuring river users are compliant with legislation to maintain a safe environment and protect essential income. You will be working in the Waterways Compliance team and report directly to the Waterways Operations Manager for compliance.
• Strong customer focus skills to deal with members of the public with diplomacy to safeguard our reputation whilst undertaking regulatory and enforcement activities. You may have gained experience from a previous similar regulatory role.
• Excellent all round communication and IT skills,
• Well organised with methodical attention to detail.
• Qualified to minimum RYA Power Boat level 2 standard.
• Physically fit, able to swim and be comfortable working on or near water.

The role is based at our Shepperton Waterways Office. There will be regular travel between locations along the non-tidal Thames, for which a lease car will be provided.
There will be regular weekend and some out of hours work, increasing during the summer peak boating season, for which allowances will be paid.

Valid driving license
