This role involves providing strong and effective leadership to a highly skilled team to manage and maintain flood risk management structures across Essex, in accordance with our asset management strategy. In doing so you will be helping to protect communities from the devastating impacts of flooding. This includes maintaining and improving assets, such as flood walls, barriers, reservoirs and other structures to ensure that they remain at the required operational and safety standards. You will also be working with external partners, suppliers and landowners as well as with internal teams to plan the future maintenance needs of the catchment. Your strong leadership will maintain the high standard of corporate and professional behaviours expected of the team and ensure successful delivery of important works, which protect people and property.
The Asset Performance team is responsible for making sure that our flood risk management assets are constructed, inspected, surveyed, assessed, maintained and operated in a safe, effective and efficient manner to reduce flood risk to people and property and to agreed service levels. During a flood event the team oversees the operation of these assets to deliver the Environment Agency's operational response in collaboration with partners.
• Strong leadership skills with experience of managing teams
• A proven track record of delivering projects and programmes through others.
• Have excellent communication and networking skills
• Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation, risk management procedures and practices.
• Coaching, mentoring and encouraging development
• Ability to translate organisational outcomes into plans and programmes for frontline delivery.
• Strong budget management capabilities
• Effective planning skills with the ability to prioritise and deliver results to tight deadlines
• Be able to take initiative, be flexible, innovate, improve, solve problems and make decisions
• Good IT skills with experience of managing and interpreting data
• Educated to degree level or equivalent, or able to demonstrate technical knowledge in a relevant subject.
• Experience / knowledge of asset management and / or engineering within a flood risk / water management environment would be advantageous but not essential.
The grade rate is £34,330
Hours: 37 per week.

A full UK driving licence is essential.

We as an Agency take part in incident response. If successful your line manager will discuss arrangements with you depending on your role and circumstances.
