We’re looking for a freshwater ecological Environmental Monitoring Officer to help carry out and deliver our environmental monitoring and investigations programme. The role will include some field based biological survey work, laboratory analysis of biological samples, data analysis, interpretation and reporting using both standard and bespoke computer applications. The high quality data that we produce is essential in contributing to the delivery of our monitoring programme, required to fulfil our national commitments. The role also services information requests to supply this data to customers.
The Analysis & Reporting team provides freshwater biological and water quality data to support and feed into all monitoring obligations tailored for delivery of our local and national environmental outcome plans. It delivers a vital service that underpins much of the Environment Agency’s statutory responsibilities relating to national legislation.
We are seeking an Environmental Monitoring Officer with freshwater ecological field and office-based experience. You’ll be qualified to a higher education level in a relevant discipline and possess ability and/or knowledge of:
• biological survey work for freshwater macro-invertebrates and macrophytes;
• an elementary standard of identification and analysis of freshwater aquatic macro-invertebrate specimens;
• data analysis and interpretation using biological and chemical metrics and indices for use in investigations and reports;
Other key requirements for this job include excellent communication skills, attention to detail, report writing, proficiency in word, excel and database management, analysis & problem solving and a passion for the freshwater environment.
The role will be based in Welwyn Garden City, although travelling to field locations across the relevant area is required and therefore the posts require a full UK driving licence to be held.
