We are the Environment Agency. We protect and improve the environment. We look after land quality, promote sustainable land management and help protect and enhance wildlife habitats. We also work closely with businesses to help them comply with environmental regulations.

In our frontline Waste teams here in North East, you’ll help create a cleaner, safer and healthier environment. You’ll play an important role tackling environmental crime, specifically looking at waste and the waste industry. You’ll support our Environment Officers in their regulation of waste sites, stop illegal waste sites and prevent, disrupt and reduce waste crime.
Sometimes we have to take tough action to achieve these aims. You may also be required to give evidence in a court of law.

The job is extremely varied, vital and at times challenging.
You will be based in one of our two area offices in an operational team focusing on Waste issues. You be part of our Waste and Enforcement Department, who truly believe in a one team approach.

You will focus on operators and companies in the waste sector working both indoors and outdoors.
You’ll be an enforcement or regulatory professional. You’ll have some experienced in evidence gathering, statement writing, interviewing of suspects/witnesses, and completion of case files and have familiarity with the court system. You’ll have a strong attention to detail.

You’ll be able to demonstrate a detailed working knowledge of investigative legislation, including the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, Criminal Procedures and Investigation Act 1996 and its Code of Practice, Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, Data Protection Act, and Proceeds of Crime Act.
