Seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Senior Archaeologist. You’ll use your creative problem solving abilities to help deliver national FCRM programme and Area objectives. Providing specialist heritage support enabling delivery of Environment Agency risk projects and strategies, meeting national and international standards. You will provide expert advice on environmental and sustainability issues to clients to ensure projects and programmes meet wider Environment Agency objectives and compliance.

Principal accountabilities:
• Provide heritage advice to the NEAS Environmental Project Manager from inception to completion, ensuring projects meet Environment Agency standards, are environmentally sound, cost effective and delivered on time;
• Contribute to the development of heritage process to reflect operational needs;
• Oversee technical quality of heritage work within team ensuring it meets national standards;
• Make appropriate heritage input to development of projects being managed by other NEAS officers and Area project managers;
• Provide expert heritage advice to Area staff working on Environment Agency projects, giving consents with sufficient consideration of heritage issues;
• Provide technical direction and mentoring to team members to ensure their continuing professional development;
• Meets fee income targets to enable NEAS to balance its budget;
• Develops strong working relationships with external partners and consultees.
The National Environmental Assessment Service (NEAS) is a successful business orientated group within the Environment Agency, project managing the environmental impact of the Environment Agency’s own multi-million pound capital and revenue flood risk management schemes and strategies.
Educated to post-graduate degree level, you will have excellent communication skills and the ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external partners. You will also:
• be able to show where you’ve worked with others to deliver environmental successes;
• have experience in inputting heritage concepts and principles effectively to the environmental assessment process;
• be able to demonstrate a good understanding of heritage in relation to innovative environmental design;
• be a Member of the Institute for Archaeologist or meet equivalent standards, with experience operating at this level

Driving licence required
Member of the Institute for Field Archaeologists, or meet the requirements for Membership and have relevant experience.
