Have an understanding of their principals of operation and their communication systems. Also to understand the principals of air quality monitoring and to be able to site equipment appropriately in order to address the questions the monitoring is trying to answer. They will have the opportunity to work with the data produced, analysing it and reporting it. However, the main thrust of the work will be on the instrument side.

The team is a small technical unit undertaking monitoring studies on behalf of area staff that require the work as part of their regulation of industry. The team has a wide range of analysers and equipment that measure a large number of air pollutants. The team sites, runs and maintains all the equipment. Next year the team will take on the maintenance of Monitoring Networks that will involve travel to all parts of the UK.
An understanding of air pollution and the techniques used to measure it will be an advantage to any applicant. Credit will be given to someone that details qualifications or experience working in the air quality field.
The aptitude to learn and keenness to take a full role as part of a closely knit, self-reliant team are by far the most important attributes. No specific experience or qualifications are obligatory for the role. However, a demonstrable aptitude for working with electronics and computer systems are vital.
