Prepare-Act-Survive
Floods can have devastating impacts on the communities they effect and the Environment Agency needs to be ready and prepared to ‘Think Big, Act Early and Be Visible’ in our response.

We are seeking a skilled, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join us in supporting people and communities to be prepared and resilient to flooding.

As a member of the Yorkshire Flood Resilience Team you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of our incident management service.

Your primary focus will be to ensure our flood warning procedures are in place and kept up to date, to enable duty staff to respond to incidents and ensure residents and businesses receive timely, effective warnings. You will play a lead role in overseeing changes to trigger levels and other procedures as part of our ongoing work to maintain and improve our service.
You will be expected to provide training and mentoring to team members, and work with national colleagues, playing a lead role in a user-group comprising colleagues from different Environment Agency Areas.

With the support of our technical advisor, you will also manage a small budget and liaise with our contractor who provides the system for updating our procedures.
The Flood Resilience Team is at the heart of flood incident management in Yorkshire. It is our job to ensure that we, our duty team, and our partners and communities are prepared for flooding, and are able to respond effectively before, during and after a flood. We do this by overseeing and organising our incident management arrangements, our Flood Warning Service and building resilient communities.
• You'll be well organised and have excellent attention to detail to ensure our work is delivered to a high standard.
• You'll be a self-starter, able to work as part of a team and individually, prioritising workload.
• You'll be good at working under pressure, working flexibly and at pace.
• You will be a good team player and be able to work with others to deliver results.

You will ideally also be able to demonstrate the following:
• Knowledge of flood risk and incident management.
• An interest in the environment and a passion for making a difference.
• An efficient and logical approach to project and budget management.
• Ability to think innovatively to develop solutions.
• Ability to explain technical information clearly and deliver training.
• Excellent customer service, communications and interpersonal skills
• Strong IT and data skills; experience of GIS software would be beneficial
This role is currently vacant due to a member of the team taking a period of extended leave, until June 2020. We would welcome applications from candidates seeking either full or part time opportunities.
