We are looking for a skilled mechanical engineer to work within the Ely Ouse to Essex Transfer Scheme Team. Based at either Wixoe in Suffolk, or Kennett in Cambridgeshire.
You will be part of a team of Mechanical and electrical staff serving to keep the scheme and its assets in high functioning operational order through planned preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair. You will be required to take part in confined space working, lone & field team working, standby duties, occasional shift working and occasional overtime where necessary.

Applicants will require good written, ‘IT’ and verbal communication skills whilst also being able to work well within a team environment and at times alone and unsupervised.

Work will involve travelling to remote locations, working at depths & height and working near water.

A full UK driving licence is essential, as the role will require travel to various sites within the East Anglia Area. You will be provided with a badged van which you will be able to take home with you and use for all business (only) connected travel, a fuel card will be provided for business use only.
Hydrology & Operations, (Ely Ouse to Essex transfer scheme) team is a specialised group of mechanical and electrical engineers/team members based in the East Anglia Area of the Environment Agency. The team are tasked with maintaining a variety of unique pumping station and pipeline assets that help transfer millions of litres of water from the Wash area in England to reservoirs in the Essex County.
A mechanical operative qualified to a minimum of NVQ level 3 or equivalent
With experience in;
• Mechanical maintenance and methodical fault finding on asset control systems
• Carrying out mechanical inspection condition reports on different types of installations
• Maintaining and servicing a multitude of various mechanical assets throughout the scheme
• Communication and customer relations skills along with the ability to develop and maintain good relations with customers and adapt behaviour to different situations and people.
• Delivering low to medium risk multi-disciplinary projects and/or activities to time cost quality ensuring successful outcomes are achieved.
• Working independently and make decisions about priorities and appropriate action on a day to day basis, to achieve planned outcomes.
• Applying up to date, technically sound knowledge to make decisions and providing sound briefing and guidance clearly and concisely to other staff and customers.

Relevant training and support will be given.

Hours : 37 per week.

The Environment Agency take part in incident response. If successful your line manager will discuss arrangements with you depending on your role and circumstances.
