The Team Leader Electrical role sits within the Thames Barrier and Associated Gates (TBAG) engineering department specifically the MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation) Electrical Team. It provides high quality technical and managerial leadership, advice/oversight to teams within the Thames Tidal Defences and across the wider organisation. In addition, specific responsibilities includes:

• Managing contractors and acting as client on MEICA related projects.
• Oversight of electrical/control systems and associated MEICA systems and activities.
• When trained, acting in the role of operator for asset flood defence and test closures.
• Ensuring MEICA work compliance with industry standards and in-house codes of practice.
• Providing input into planned preventative asset management and operational plans.
• Promoting and leading on modern asset management techniques and applications.
The friendly and essential MEICA Team are based at the iconic Thames Barrier in south east London.

The Thames Barrier, five associated major flood gate structures at Barking and Dartford Creek and the tidal entrances to London’s Royal Docks, are the Environment Agency’s largest and most critical suite of flood defence assets.

The skilled team are a specialised group of mechanical and electrical engineers who design, plan and maintain the mechanical/electrical aspects of the assets.
You should be an experienced engineer, specialising in the electrical aspects of MEICA and ideally will already have Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status. Alternatively you could be an aspiring professional who wishes to work towards IEng or CEng qualification (funding support can be provided) and wish to pursue a career path that will enable to fully develop in this role.

Ideally you will have line management or supervisory experience and be able to demonstrate professional competence. You will have knowledge of particular aspects of electrical systems including HV, Controls and SCADA.

As a valued colleague you will be integral to successful project delivery and will help to identify and resolve various operational issues with both consultants and end users. Colleagues will also look to you for technical advice/guidance on electrical issues and activities that impact on operational activities. Electrical colleagues will look up to you for leadership/line management direction.
The role will be based in Charlton, South London.

Starting Salary £34,879 (see candidate pack for complete salary details). Also available after a period of training a standby payment of approximately £3400 will also be payable.

Incorporated or Chartered MEICA engineer registered with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) or Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
