Do you want to make the world a better place? Are you passionate about protecting against natural threats and hazards? We are looking for a great team leader to join our Operations Department. We are looking for a strong leader who will lead one of our field teams from our Darlington Office.

You will expected to manage the team as they maintain our flood defences assets so that they work effectively in a flood event. The work the team carries out is very varied and you will be expected to ensure the team work safely and efficiently at all times.

The team uses a variety of fleet vehicles and plant as team leader you will be expected to ensure that this is safe for use.

You will report to the North East Area Local Delivery Lead and the department in which you will work consists of three field teams and three asset performance teams.

In the near future other similar roles within the department maybe become available therefore this recruitment campaign will be used to form a reserve list which will be held for 6 months from which further appointments can be made
The Field Team carry out a wide variety of work to maintain our flood defence assets and this includes, but is not all encompassing, grass cutting, vermin control, river blockage clearance and construction work. On occasion they also get involved in clearing environmental incidents. They work out of the Darlington depot and cover the Wear and Tees river catchments. In a flood event they work across the whole North East Area.
You will be a competent leader and will also have a commensurate knowledge of managing health, safety and wellbeing in a delivery environment.

Health and safety accreditation, for example NEBOSH would be preferred however relevant experience and knowledge of the appropriate legislation will also be considered.

The management of health safety and wellbeing within this role is crucial. You will need to ensure that the team are working safely at all times. You will be able to build and maintain an excellent health, safety and wellbeing culture within the team. You will also ensure that the team complies with all relevant Health and Safety legislation including the CDM Regulations.

Asset Systems Management
The Environment Agency has recently gained ISO 55000 for Asset Management. The Field Team maintain our flood defence assets and are essential for ensuring our assets are maintained effectively. You will be expected to help us drive and sustain a brilliant asset management culture.
