Do you want to develop and trial new approaches to achieving outcomes for the natural environment? Are you motivated to help the EA transition to low carbon economy, contributing to our net zero by 2030 ambition? This is a unique opportunity to be part of a new team who are leading our approach to securing innovative sources of funding to deliver for the natural environment.

The ecological and climate emergency requires action across all sectors to address the increasing impacts to people and nature. The Environment Agency has a key role in addressing these issues, securing more external investment to keep people safe and leave the environment in a better state for the next generation.

This role will play a key part in our developing and trialling innovative funding approaches at the local scale. This will include:
- Piloting innovative habitat creation projects with external partners and stakeholders that use private sector contributions to our outcomes
- Developing our auction platform NatureBid and other funding and financing tools that can increase external contributions
- Analysis and evaluation of pilots and influencing future land use and water policy
- Engaging and sharing learning from the pilots with colleagues and partners.
The role sits within the Catchment Funding Team, part of Future Funding Function of the Environment and Business directorate, reporting to the Catchment Funding Manager. The role will be line managed as part of a small team who work across the organisation and with wider government securing innovative sources of investment in the environment. The role will work closely with our local area teams and with external partners on catchment delivery.
We are looking for someone who combines excellent people and delivery skills with analytical and technical skills. You will enjoy working with a range of people to get things done, getting into the detail and crunching the data but also be able to communicate clearly the learning from your analysis with a range of partners and audiences.
Essential skills and experience:
- Experience of working on collaborative catchment-based projects with both private and public sector partners
- Excellent people and organisational skills with a strong track record of delivery
- Confident to help shape new approaches and ways of working; comfortable with trying new things in an open learning environment
- Strong analytical and evaluation skills; ability to pull out key learning and summarise complex information
- Excellent communication and engagement skills;

Desirable:
- Knowledge of market-based approaches and trading schemes
- Experience in a commercial setting/context
- Economically literate
Location is flexible within the South West or Yorkshire, preferably Exeter, Bristol or Leeds and must be office based. Travel to other Environment Agency offices will be required as part of the role.
