As a Sampling and Collection Team Member you will help provide our area’s integrated environmental monitoring service by collecting, collating and inputting environmental monitoring data in an accurate and timely manner. This work will involve collecting water samples from rivers, measuring the level of groundwater, undertake ecology surveys, assisting on fish surveys and inputting data. Through your work you will provide high quality information that will help us understand the status of our river environments.

When necessary you will also help with our area’s response to, and investigation of, environmental and flood incidents.
The Thames Sampling and Collection team plays a vital role in obtaining environmental data. We specialise in fish, ecology, water quality and groundwater levels information. This data is then used throughout the Environment Agency to report to government and external stakeholders about the state of the environment, enabling important decisions and actions to be made.
- You must be an enthusiastic, proactive and problem solving individual who is comfortable with lone working in all weathers.

- You will have some basic knowledge of water quality, fish, ecology and groundwater level monitoring.

- You will be comfortable with talking to members of the public about our work.

- You must have a full driving licence and be happy with driving a van over long distances each day.

- You will have experience of using Microsoft Office programmes and Smartphones.

- It would be preferable, but not essential, for you to have experience of database entry, basic fish identification and familiarity with the survey technique of electric fishing

Your base location is our Goldcrest House office in Farnham Surrey. However the majority of your time will be in the field and you will be expected to travel to sites anywhere within the Thames area, which includes the Cotswolds, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and parts of Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Surrey.

Flexible working is allowed however you are expected to start fish surveys at 7 am with some working at night also required. Overtime is paid where necessary.
