We are looking for a confident and experienced person to fill this role as a Communications & Engagement Officer for the Wareham Coastal Change project. The Wareham Coastal Change project aims to create intertidal habitat on The Moors at Arne, which is enabling work for future flood risk improvements around Poole Harbour. This is a statutory requirement linked to sea level rise and the loss of habitat (coastal squeeze) against present and future flood defences.

You will be fundamental in supporting our stakeholder engagement activities and in planning and delivering effective communications for the Wareham Coastal Change project. Gaining support and collaboration from internal and external stakeholders is critical to the delivery of the project, as it moves through design and planning stages to construction expected to start in 2021. Facilitating the understanding of the need for the project is a crucial measure of success. The successful candidate will require the ability to communicate complex flood risk and environmental matters using terminology that is easily understood.
You will become a member of our Wareham Coastal Change team joining the delivery Project Manager, Project Executive, Senior User and specialist advisors. The team works collaboratively with the external project partners to steer the project and to provide expert input and advice to the design consultants. Effective engagement with a variety of stakeholders is a critical aspect of this role, as well as the management of written communications for internal and external purposes.
You will have experience of planning high quality engagement activities including stakeholder mapping and analysis, stakeholder workshops and engagement activity facilitation. You will have experience of using social media and communications tools to promote a project. You will be able to demonstrate political awareness when dealing with customers, stakeholders and communities, have strong people skills with an ability to build and sustain excellent working relationships with internal and external partners.

You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to produce high quality, plain English, briefings, updates, social media posts and press releases. You must be a highly organised and flexible person who is able to meet tight deadlines and prioritise workloads. Some flexibility will be required to attend week day evening meetings and nominated project team meeting days.
