This is a new post that will lead a dispersed technical team to manage all aspects of the National Marine Modellers portfolio
The post holder will be the technical lead for Water Quality Coastal/Marine modelling within the National River Basin Management Service (NRBMS). The role will provide technical leadership to a team of experienced technical experts and will be responsible for developing work plans and prioritising workload.
The post holder will also work with the Nuclear New Build programme to provide high-level technical liaison to support projects from NNB and Tidal Lagoon developers. This support will provide assurance to planning/permit applications that directly (discharges) and indirectly (coastal structures) affect coastal water quality.
The successful candidate will ultimately be responsible for the governance and coordination of all Marine Modelling work within the NRBMS, setting direction, maintaining technical resilience as well as delivery of work plan. This will ensure we regulate businesses and influence others to look after the quality of our marine environment.
The National River Basin Management Service is a dispersed team that supports the organisation in delivering plans that drive billions of pounds of investment to benefit the environment. It does this by securing the greatest possible outcomes across key stakeholders and influencing significant investment in the water environment. This post is within the Technical and Advisory teams, the teams provide technical analysis on strategic planning for both water quality and water resources functions.
We a seeking an enthusiastic technical specialist with good communication and influencing skills. You’ll have, or be working towards, a specific professional qualification or membership of a professional body. Qualified to at least degree standard (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and proven ability in:

• Marine water quality modelling expertise for new and existing infrastructure developments and other marine water quality modelling needs
• A detailed understanding of coastal hydrodynamic and water quality processes
• Experience in developing and applying numerical coastal models
• Knowledge and experience in the principles and application of mathematical marine modelling in the risk assessment for regulation
• Statistical procedures relating to experimental design and analysis of marine data for predictive modelling
• Experience of managing projects and programmes of work
• Management experience desirable
• Effective working with external organisations
• Good communication skills that have influenced outcomes

You should understand and be comfortable with the challenges of remote working as part of a dispersed team. The successful candidate will be expected to be able to travel for national meetings with occasional overnight stays. The preferred locations will be will be in one of the Central or West Technical Advisory Team bases (South West/Midlands Area).
