The local growth and strategy technical specialist role is to work with internal EA teams across Cumbria and Lancashire and external partners, such as Local Enterprise Partnerships, to share information and identify opportunities to work in partnership to deliver environmental improvement, sustainable development and meet local and national economic growth objectives.
The role requires developing an understanding of how EA priorities can link to, and support local growth aspirations, and influencing partners to understand the interplay between environmental improvement, resilience and economic growth.
This post sits within the Cumbria and Lancashire Sustainable Places team. They coordinates the Environment Agency’s input into the Town and Country Planning Act across Cumbria and Lancashire. The team acts as a central hub, liaising with technical teams to ensure our statutory role in the planning process is fulfilled and sustainable development is promoted; while also being the single point of contact for a range external partners, such as District Authorities and County Councils.
The successful applicant will have an ability to establish good working relationships with partners (internally and externally), to identify and harness opportunities for working in partnership to deliver sustainable development, environmental improvement and/or economic growth objectives.
The successful applicant would ideally have some experience of obtaining funding though non-governmental organisation/third sector, central government or European channels, and be able to demonstrate understanding of linkages between the environment and the economy.
Applicants should have strong communication skills, and an ability to adapt communication style and approach to resonate with different audiences, both with internal teams and colleagues and with external partners.
