An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified civil engineer, preferably with relevant flood risk management experience, to join our newly created Derbyshire asset performance team. You will take a leading role on planning the maintenance of our flood risk assets and take ownership for a geographical patch. Your enthusiasm and positive outlook will help you find solutions that deliver our maintenance works.

Our team manages thousands of flood risk assets across Derbyshire, ranging from critical assets like pumping stations and major penstocks through to small outfalls and flapvalves. We perform an essential role in ensuring that people and property are protected from flooding by taking the right investment decision at the right time; based upon robust data and excellent knowledge of our assets.

This role involves huge variety and so you may be planning a construction project one day, undertaking data work the next day and liaising with contractors and local residents on another. You also have the opportunity to get involved in incident response and take a leading role in co-ordinating our field service operatives during a flood event. This is a hugely rewarding role that can provide a lot of job satisfaction and opportunities for professional development.
We're a new team that has been set up to work closely with our field service operatives based out of our Draycott depot. Our team comprises a mix of civil engineers, data and incident leads, asset inspector and technical admin support. We're an outgoing and sociable team and now is a great time to join us as we embrace new concepts like whole life asset management and different ways of working.
We're seeking a qualified civil engineer, preferably with relevant work experience in the flood risk sector. It is desirable if you're working toward membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. ICE or CIWEM). Formal qualifications in project management (e.g. PRINCE2); data and information management (e.g. GIS); and experience of undertaking construction works in accordance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 are advantageous.

The post holder is expected to spend most of their time in the office undertaking computer work. Therefore, we're looking for candidates that are highly computer literate and proficient in the use of Microsoft office; outlook; excel; and other computer packages.

Other key requirements for this job include excellent communication skills; proficiency in data and information management; undertaking work in accordance with health and safety and environmental regulations; working in teams; and focussing on our customers and partners.
Closing Date: 30th April 2017 23:55hrs

We're committed to providing a supportive learning environment where people can achieve their full potential. We will actively support you to gain professional membership and chartership.

You'll be expected to travel to field locations across Derbyshire and so the post requires a full UK driving licence. As an operational role, this post is eligible for a lease car (subject to business case approval). The role is based out of our Trentside Office in Nottingham and/or our field depot at Draycott, Derbyshire.

You'll be expected to take on an incident management role and be part of our roster which will involve some out of hours and weekend duties.
