This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced incident professional to lead the delivery of national incident operations for the Environment Agency. You will ensure the Environment Agency is a professional, and trusted emergency responder helping people, businesses and the environment.

This is a crucial role in how we protect lives and livelihoods and the environment during a wide range of flooding and environmental incidents.

The successful candidate will set the framework and systems for our national and local incident management covering everything from local pollution incidents to large scale flooding events. You will work with a broad range of internal and external partners to achieve our aims and objectives. You will also ensure we continue to learn and continuously improve our response.

The post is based in the National Incident Room in Horizon House, Bristol, although occasional working from other locations will be required
You will lead a number of operational teams within Incident Management and Resilience. The teams:

• are responsible for our incident management framework
• maintain the incident risk picture for the organisation
• provide our national incident response
• provide our national air quality response
• provide our national business continuity response
We are seeking an experienced incident professional with significant leadership experience.

The successful candidate will be expected to take on senior standby and incident response roles and must be able to provide support and advice to our most senior leaders during incidents. They will also be expected to provide individual leadership in a number of topic areas within the incident response landscape.

The following skills and experience are required:-

• Degree qualified or equivalent is essential with professional qualifications or membership preferred
• Excellent knowledge of multi-functional incident management is essential.
• Experience of working in a multi-agency environment with other category 1 responders is essential
• Experience of leading teams is essential.
• Operational incident management experience and ability to work in high pressure situations is essential.
• Experience in leading change, continuous improvement and innovation is essential

Incident Planning
• Understands own role in incident response and ensures that own skills and knowledge are adequate for the job.

• Uses information and evidence gathered at incidents to plan response to future ones.
• Identifies and agrees improvements to the Environment Agency’s response to incidents and puts in place plans to implement these. Ensures others understand these plans and are equipped for any changes to their role in an incident.
• Represents the Environment Agency at the appropriate level dependent on role. Promotes best practise both within and outside the Environment Agency
Incident Response
• Logs and makes initial assessment of the incident.
• Determines appropriate response to remediate and investigate the incident (taking Environment Agency enforcement powers in to account).
• Manages the incident and controls the response in accordance with relevant work instructions.
• Maintains the incident record according to procedures.
• Liaises with external stakeholders, and represents the Environment Agency, as determined by assigned role in the incident
Manages Change
