We’re looking for someone with experience of water resources management and planning to join our South East Technical and Advisory team within the River Basin Management Service (RBMS).

Your expert knowledge and advice will help to ensure that the water industry has plans in place to deliver safe and secure water supplies for people and the environment both now and in the future. As a water resources technical expert you will use your influence to:

- lead on statutory water resources planning process for one or more water companies in the South East, including Affinity Water.
- review and provide assurance on water company Water Resource Management Plans and Drought Plans
- lead technical liaison and provide technical support to individual water companies on the development of their statutory plans
- be an active member on one or more technical portfolios to give our customers, internal and external, a single point of contact for a range of water resources issues
- develop, maintain and share technical expertise with staff to improve knowledge and competence throughout the organisation
- support Water Company Account Managers and internal colleagues to secure improvements to water company performance as part of virtual teams.
RBMS drives billions of pounds of investment in the water environment by influencing and advising key stakeholders. The Technical and Advisory teams analyse the evidence required to deliver strategic planning for both water quality and water resources. The teams ensure that technical skills and knowledge is shared and developed using a portfolio approach aligned to milestones in the strategic water planning process. We deliver outcomes using a one business approach, working closely with internal teams.
We are seeking an individual with experience of water resources management and planning. You’ll be qualified to at least degree standard (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and preferably have, or be working towards, a specific professional qualification or membership of a professional body. You will possess proven ability and/or expert knowledge of:
- water resources planning
- effective working with external organisations, particularly water companies
- using strong communication and networking skills to influence or help deliver outcomes
- interpreting/evaluating evidence to propose effective solutions for challenging problems
- shaping and facilitating change/new ways of working to improve efficiency & productivity
- Strong data analysis skills

Additional skills in a related technical discipline would be an advantage, for example: WR modelling, Hydrology, Licensing, Supply and Demand forecasting.

You should understand and be comfortable with the challenges of remote working as part of a dispersed team. The successful candidate will be expected to be able to travel to meet with water companies, and to national meetings with occasional overnight stays.

The preferred office base will be hubs where colleagues are based in Peterborough and Reading, although other offices across the country would also be considered.
