Poor air quality is recognised as a major cause of harm to people's health and the environment in the UK and across the world. This topic is rising up the public agenda and expectations on government and organisations to improve air quality are increasing rapidly.

Our role in the Public Health and Air Quality team is to take a strategic view of the Environment Agency's roles in air quality to ensure that we minimise the impacts of poor air quality where we can.

As Air Quality Senior Adviser, you will lead our thinking on strategic air quality matters to ensure that air quality activities across the business effectively contribute to meeting the objectives of the Clean Air Strategy. You will lead our engagement on air quality with internal and external audiences, and especially with other air quality teams to ensure that we work collaboratively, efficiently and effectively.

You will lead our joint working with Public Health England in relation to air quality, and you will work closely with the Air Quality Adviser to manager our stakeholder relationships.

Location is flexible but you must be willing to travel regularly and extensively.
The Public Health and Air Quality team is a relatively new team set up to better understand where we can provide leadership on air quality and how it impacts on people and the environment. The team as a whole, is looking at the future role of the environment in improving public health, including through better air quality. We work closely with government and partners to deliver outcomes for people and the environment.
• You will have extensive experience of partnership working and maximising outcomes for the environment and people by influencing other organisations.
• You will be working as part of a dispersed team so you need to be a self-starter, organised and able to work remotely and travel nationally.
• You will be able to communicate confidently, both orally and in writing, producing documents and guidance which is engaging and in plain English.
• You will have strong influencing and networking skills.
• It would be an advantage to have experience in project management or continuous improvement.
• A good understanding of how air quality contributes to our work on public health and wellbeing would be an advantage.
