Climate Change is the biggest risk we face. We are planning for future flood scenarios including a 4oC rise in global temperature and are working with government, local councils, businesses, civil society groups and communities to make our environment a better place for people and wildlife.

We are looking for a passionate, motivated Specialist Team Member to help plan, coordinate and manage the delivery of our asset management programme and emergency response work within budget and published timeline.

You’ll provide leadership on health and safety matters and actively promote safe working practices. You will ensure that site work fully complies with our policies and that appropriate staff, equipment and materials are available. You will undertake the role of a principle contractor and fulfil all duties associated with the role. You will communicate with landowners and the public when required.

You’ll help lead our operational response to flood and environment incidents by participating, and training in an incident role. You’ll identify, organise, and coordinate training to test incident response plans.
Based in Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire, we protect people and the environment by maintaining and operating our flood and coastal risk management assets and responding to incidents.

We have a range of technical skills to deliver watercourse and asset maintenance, along with small construction projects. We handle a variety of specialist equipment including pumps and temporary flood barriers.

We are part of a 24 hour incident response rota, providing mutual aid assistance during incidents.

• Good understanding of the principles of health, safety and wellbeing to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
• Ability to use your initiative, work as part of a team, make decisions and achieve planned outcomes;
• Experience in managing contractors, and partnership working;
• Delivery of work by planning, tracking and maintaining data
• Good organisational skills, ability to use MS Office and other applications;
• Managing multiple priorities and demands.
• Excellent problem solving and communication skills.

An understanding of CDM Regulations 2015 would be advantageous. Acting as Principle Contractor to assist the delivery of our asset management programme in line with our Safety, Health, Environment and Wellbeing code of practice.

Preferably an interest in engineering, geography or science discipline.

A full UK driving license.

The role includes working at Site, Depot and home working within catchment, based on Operational need. The Main Depot is Rivers House, Blandford and Winterbourne Gunner, Salisbury.

Programme and Project Management
The Specialist Team Member needs to work with the Team Leader, schedule the teams work, and produce accurate and appropriate paperwork and documentation (including site packs) to enable work to be carried out on site.

Communicates Effectively
The Specialist Team Member regularly interacts with landowners and members of the public, as well as team members and other colleagues, and you need to be able to communicate confidently and professionally.
Please tell us how your personal approach ensures clear and effective communication to others, and also give us an example of how you have dealt with a difficult situation previously and ensured a positive outcome?
Takes Decisions and Solves Problems
Field Teams need to make decisions and solve problems as part of their role, this could include understanding how a structure operates or the failure mechanism of an asset. This may be in a time pressured situation.
Using a work based example, please tell us about a time you had to solve a particularly complex problem in a short space of time.
Driving Licence
If you are applying from the Civil Service please note that the Environment Agency is not a part of HM Civil Service and you would not be a Crown Servant in the event of being appointed. Therefore, you will not be eligible for continuous service.
