We are seeking an organised, self-motivated person who has an eye for detail and would enjoy a combination of field and desk based work.

Water, Land and Biodiversity (WLB) assets located across the Wessex area help the Environment Agency manage and monitor the environment. These assets are diverse in nature and include weirs, rain gauges and fish passes. The team’s objective is to establish and maintain an asset register and understand the condition of our assets. The team is also responsible for managing the installation and repair of WLB assets.

As a WLB Asset Assistant, you will be visiting and cataloguing our assets alongside inputting and quality assuring the data. You will carry out a programme of visual asset inspections to determine their condition and raise defects. You will work within the team and with others in area to collate and process the information. For the majority of the time you will be lone working. Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions is important. Within the role there is a project support element including data searches, record keeping and customer liaison.

The Wessex area is large and you will be expected to cover to whole patch when necessary.
The team currently sits within the Wessex Environmental Monitoring and Fisheries Department and is made up of six individuals who are involved in delivering whole-life asset management and ensuring the delivery of the Asset Management Strategy. Projects include cataloguing our WLB assets, compliance with our legal obligations and delivery of capital and revenue projects. Reporting to the WLB Asset Management Team Leader, your workload will largely be guided by the area WLB Technical Lead.
The ability to manage a varied workload is essential and being confident to work alone on site. Experience in asset management, hydrology and telemetry, direct involvement in projects or in the delivery of asset maintenance work is an advantage but not essential.

The following experience/skills are beneficial:
• Self-motivated with an eye for detail
• Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
• Capable of delivering work though planning, tracking, gathering and maintaining data/information
• Working alone and using your own initiative as well as working as a team to make decisions and achieve planned outcomes
• Confident working with smartphone technology
• Ability to use MS Office 365 (strong Excel skills are desirable) and other computer packages
• The ability to follow Health, Safety and Wellbeing procedures
• Comfortable working near/in water
• A confident driver and navigator
The office base for the role can either be Blandford or Bridgwater as the team is spilt across two sites.
