We are looking for an experienced environmental professional to join our team that regulates waste and industrial installations in the Thames Area. As a regulatory officer you will be at the forefront of protecting people and the environment from harm and helping contribute to a cleaner, greener world.
You will undertake compliance assessment activities at a wide range of waste recycling and industrial sites. You will ensure permit compliance and make complex assessments of an operators' ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise use of resources. At times you will set conditions under which a site may continue to operate and enforce the law should they fail to comply.
You will also respond to and investigate incidents making sure preventive and protective action is implemented.
You will use your influencing and negotiating skills to secure best practice, often dealing with people at senior levels within industry, local communities and other interested groups.
Following training, you will also be expected to take up an appropriate incident management role which may include out of hours standby duties.
Salary and grading will be based on experience and skills.

Our primary aim is to ensure that sites of Industrial and complex wastes processes operate in compliance with strict environmental standards for emissions and energy and resource efficiency.
You can demonstrate your operational or regulatory experience of waste and industrial processes in general but we are particularly interested in individuals who have experience or transferable skills within the combustion, chemical or landfill sectors.
You will be a proactive, self-motivated and confident communicator, used to influencing and negotiating to deliver outcomes, with strong interpersonal skills; together with well-developed technical expertise and regulatory experience within an industrial environment.
You are experienced in delivering environmental improvements using a range of tools and techniques including audits and analysing environmental data.
You will preferably have a degree or equivalent in a scientific, environmental or engineering discipline.
Depending on the outcome of the selection and interview process, we may consider offering the position as development grade 4 regulatory officer role. This provides an additional 12 month structured training programme before progression to the grade 5 Regulatory Installation officer position.

A full UK driving licence will be required as is flexibility to travel for operational site visits. A pool or hire vehicle will be made available for business travel.

A key requirement of this role is your industrial or regulatory experience in any of the following industrial sectors- combustion (including emissions abatement and analysis), chemistry (chemical manufacture, waste sampling and analysis) or landfill (including engineering and gas management).
